Hummus (chickpea cream)
Chickpeas are the main ingredient in hummus. In folk language they are known as "owl peas." They may seem exotic here in Hungary, but in many countries they are as much a staple as bread is for us. They are high in both fibre and carbohydrates, and their protein content also makes them an excellent ingredient for athletes.

- 8 slices of Abonett plain extruded bread
- 400 g canned chickpeas
- 1 tbsp tahini
- 1 large clove of garlic
- 1 tsp cumin
- Lemon juice
- Chilli
- Salt
- Pepper
Preparation
Place all the ingredients in a bowl and blend together with a hand blender. Make sure to add a little of the chickpea liquid as well — otherwise it will turn out too dry!
